Before she became a strategic advisor to law firms of every size, including more than 30 Am Law 200 firms, Brandie Knox earned her Master of Fine Arts and taught as an Assistant Professor at East Carolina University.
After her move to New York City, and a two year stint at a marketing and communications agency, the Am Law 50 firm Shearman & Sterling recruited Brandie in-house, where she worked alongside more than 850 attorneys around the globe. She got close to how a large law firm actually runs – how marketing, business development, IT, and the practice groups talk to each other (or don’t), how decisions move, where work gets stuck. That in-house view became the foundation for everything she does now: a clear read of partnership dynamics, the politics, and the pace at which law firms actually work.
In 2009, Brandie founded Knox Design Strategy. Today, she works as a strategic advisor to law firms on brand, knowledge and technology, firm operations, and litigation strategy – the thinking and alignment that move firms forward. The work blends critical thinking and creativity with business and technology, built on the habit of asking better questions, listening honestly, and building from the answers.
Two decades inside law firms teaches you what to listen for. Brandie has stayed close to that conversation – chairing the New York Local Group of the Legal Marketing Association (LMA), and remaining active in the International Legal Technology Association (ILTA). Her leadership in law firm marketing, knowledge management, and innovation has helped firms answer the right questions, solve problems, and get the people in the room aligned behind decisions that actually move.
