Brandie Knox

Before she became a go-to source for Am Law 200 branding and design, and before she chaired the Legal Marketing Association’s New York Local Group through the COVID-19 pandemic, Brandie Knox earned her Master of Fine Arts and worked as an Assistant Professor at East Carolina University.

Brandie’s field of expertise, Communication Arts, brings together critical thinking with creativity. The best designers ask people questions, think carefully about their answers, and solve problems with what they’ve learned. Good design makes things better – easier to use, more efficient, and yes, more appealing to a viewer’s eye, mind, and heart. 

In 2002, Brandie joined an agency in New York City where she worked with iconic brands like General Electric, the Bank of New York, and Johnson & Johnson. Large companies (and law firms, as Brandie would soon discover) are complicated puzzles. Brandie found she had a knack for applying her design thinking training to uncover honest, unexpected insights. 

Soon, the Am Law 50 firm Shearman & Sterling recruited Brandie to their design team. At the time, Shearman & Sterling employed more than 850 attorneys around the globe, and Brandie became intimately familiar with the challenges that large law firms face. Learning how a law firm’s various departments work (or don’t work) became one of Brandie’s most valuable skills. A designer needs more than just the right answer; she needs the social graces and savvy to inspire stakeholders’ enthusiasm for change.

In 2009, Brandie founded Knox Design Strategy. Since then, her team has built a continuous relationship with 30 Am Law 200 firms and collaborated with many more. 

For those in the legal marketplace, design is more than just a “nice to have.” It’s a necessity. Brandie’s leadership in law firm marketing, knowledge management, and innovation has helped firms answer questions, solve problems, and build strong relationships – all through the power of curiosity, strategy, and great design.
