International law firms are challenged to recruit talent from among top tier students amid a sea of competitive firms. How to maintain the firm’s integrity while giving candidates an inspiring peek behind the curtain?

Misperceptions of Shearman & Sterling as a stuffy, white-shoe law firm put off some top summer associate candidates. Informal associate interviews revealed the firm’s true personality – prestigious, yet fun and supportive – so we rebranded the recruiting brochure and designed the website to reflect this. Applications from desirable candidates rose 60%. The response was overwhelming, from students as well as the attorney population all of whom loved the campus giveaways, which included a walking shoe flip-book journal.

This was a massive effort which entailed creating a new marketing campaign and designing new materials including a brochure and a website. Brandie was responsible for all aspects of the project from supervising the outside consultant to executing on the design, supervising the video and photography crews through to production. The whole project was quite innovative for a law firm and it was a tremendous success due to Brandie’s strong project management skills combined with her design gifts.
